“We have reached a saturation point at which the high pitched scream of consumer selling is no more than sheer noise.”

-First Things First Manifesto, 1964

Why am I doing this? Will it add good to the world? Is it worth it?

I design for people. I design for the planet that the people occupy. I design to make this world a better place. Design is a tool, a strategy, to create a livable world in which everyone can thrive. All designers add to the world. I choose to add good.

My Values & Ethics

First, I design for good, then and only then, may I create good design. People and planet always come before aesthetic and notoriety. I hereby subject myself to my personal code of conduct, as well as comply to the standards I set for my person. Failure to follow through will not result in a loss of ethics altogether, rather it will create an opportunity to further engage with the project at hand until it has met these standards. I also understand this to be a working list that may grow as I evolve and grow as a designer.

Code of Conduct

  • I will design to create good for people and planet. I am a human, then a designer.

  • I will not be discriminatory of a person based on race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or any other protected class.

  • I will not plagiarize or take someone else’s work as my own.

Personal Standards

  • I will be inspired by the world. The world is, after all, the only designed thing to be present through every era, every fad, every trend, and every revolution.

  • I will be inspired by people. I have only my perspective. Though valuable, so is another. Everyone in the world knows something I don’t. I will listen, learn, emphasize, and evolve.

  • I will be inclusive, empathetic, and work towards regeneration.

  • I will respond respectfully and thoughtfully to criticism.

  • I will communicate clearly with honesty and integrity.

  • I will never stop learning. Curiosity is the way to innovation. Innovation is the way to change.
